Reach SolarCalc — report a stale incentive, a wrong sun-hours preset, a math bug or a missing feature. What to include so your report becomes a fix.

Report a stale number — the most valuable mail here

Solar facts have expiry dates. Tax credits terminate, export tariffs get renamed and repriced, irradiance datasets refresh. If something on this site disagrees with a current primary source — a statute, an IRS page, a utility tariff sheet, NREL data — tell us:

  1. The page and the sentence — e.g. “the ROI table, California row” or “the tax credit article, paragraph 2.”
  2. What it says now vs what the source says — quote or link the primary document (IRS.gov, DSIRE, your PUC tariff page beats a blog post).
  3. Anything time-sensitive — if it expired or changed on a specific date, the date is the fix.

One caveat before the stampede: presets are honest midpoints of ranges, and models are approximations. “My roof gets 5.4 PSH, not the 5.9 your California preset says” is the model working as designed — ranges span states for a reason. “Your §48E deadline is off by a day” is a correction, and the kind we ship fastest.

Found a math bug?

Even better — math bugs get fixed before prose edits. Include what you entered (panel count or roof area, PSH, tilt, losses, rates, cost) and what the page showed versus what you expected. A worked counter-example beats a screenshot; the calculator’s whole job is arithmetic, so arithmetic disagreements get top priority.

Suggest a feature

Describe the decision it would help: “compare cash vs loan side by side,” “model a battery’s self-consumption bump,” “monthly production profile, not just annual.” Features get built when they answer a question more than one person asks — the scenario teaches more than the mockup.

What we can’t help with

  • Your roof or your quote — shading surveys, structural checks, permit packages and bid negotiations belong to licensed professionals on your actual roof.
  • Your utility or installer relationship — billing disputes, interconnection queues and contract complaints go to them, or to your state PUC.
  • Tax advice — we document the incentives that exist; whether you qualify is a conversation for your tax professional (see the disclaimer).

Response expectations

Corrections citing a source usually get an answer — and a fix — within days. Feature ideas are always read and honestly slower; answered, not ignored.
